Sorbisense technology is used for monitoring of nutrients and xenobiotics in the aquatic environment as alternative or supplementary to traditional grab sampling - or measurements of the concentrations in biota or sediments.

Sorbisense' technology is especially advantageous if concentrations in the water phase is too low or the concentration varies with time and makes it difficult to collect representative grab samples.

Sorbisense is advantageous because sample collection occur in situ and over an extended time scale. The method also provides for simultaneous pre-concentration of the contaminantes in the sampler and operates without requirement of energy or maintenance.
